The Mir station has been evaluated to forecast the expected number of impacts and
penetrations the spacecraft will witness. The earliest assessments of the facility
were of a research or academic nature; but in recent years, as the station has been drawn
into service as the Phase 1 portion of the Russian invlovment in the ISS project,
the analysis has become much more pragmatic in purpose.
